Mrs. Marie Lumpkin Bridges of 1904 Palmyra Road, Albany, Georgia, formerly of Dawson, Georgia, passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2009 at Palmyra Nursing Home, Inc., Albany, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, January 2, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at Beulahland Baptist Church, 732 Lemon Street NE, Dawson, Georgia. The burial service will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery,1469 Georgia Avenue SE, Dawson, Georgia.
The family hour will be held Friday, January 1, 2010 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
Marie Lumpkin Bridges was born June 9, 1919, along with a twin sister, Annie Ree Simmons, who preceded her in death, to the late Will Arthur and Annie Will Jackson Lumpkin in Shellman, Georgia.
At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Shellman, Georgia. In later years, she moved her membership to Beulahland Missionary Baptist Church, Dawson, Georgia.
During her early years, she met and married the late Clarence Bridges, Sr. Ten children were born to this union. Two children, Marie (late Booker T.) Dotson and David Bridges, preceded her in death.
Surviving her departure with cherished memories are: eight children, Martha (Charlie) Brown of Parrott, Georgia, Rochester (Estelle) Bridges, Queenester (late Horace) Hazelton of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Usher (Rosa) Bridges of Albany, Georgia, Arthur (Donna) Bridges of Sasser, Georgia, Tommy (Helen) Bridges of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Clarence (Hilda) Bridges, Jr. of Dacula, Georgia, and Vangelo Bridges of Jacksonville, Florida; one stepdaughter, Ruby (Lewis) Horton of Mattapan, Massachusetts; two sisters, Mary Jackson and Iwilla Williams of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; twenty grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
