Mattie Thompson Obituary

Mrs. Mattie Afterlen Walker Thompson of 115 Missouri Road, Cusseta, Georgia, passed away on January 8, 2010 at The Medical Center, Columbus, Georgia.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at 3:00 P.M. at Harmony Baptist Church, Cusseta, Georgia. The burial service will follow in Bethel A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Cusseta, Georgia.

Mattie Walker Thompson was born to the late Leila and James Walker on July 5, 1938 in Taylor County, Georgia.

She attended the public schools in Marion County. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ. She attended Harmony Baptist Church until her health failed.

On December 20, 1957, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Charlie L. Thompson, Sr. Eight children were born to this union, and two children preceded her in death. She was a loving mother and homemaker.

Two siblings preceded her in death, Margaret Davis and Mary Hall.

On Friday, January 8, 2010, the Lord called her home to rest at The Medical Center, Columbus, Georgia.

She leaves to cherish her memories: a very devoted brother, Charlie Walker of Buena Vista, Georgia; a devoted niece/sister, Virginia Hubbard of Cusseta, Georgia; six children, Marjorie (Toby) Ross of Columbus, Georgia, Mary Ann (Elijah) White of Cusseta, Georgia, Charlie (Susan) Thompson, Jr. of Des Moines, Iowa, Emory (Mary) Thompson of Columbus, Georgia, Peggy Thompson of Cusseta, Georgia, and Virginia Pearce of Richland, Georgia; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-two great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Hattie Spivey of Cusseta, Georgia and Eva Mae Body of Columbus, Georgia; two stepchildren; Cynthia Perry and Leila Perry of Cusseta, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
