Mr. Joe Merritt Obituary



Mr. Joe Merritt was born on December 29, 1950, in Stewart County, Georgia to Mr. Richard Merritt and Mrs. Willie Mae Protho Merritt. He was known to all as "Joe" or "Ruben".

On Monday, April 2, 2018, God called a loving, devoted, and an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend home.

Joe attended Stewart County High School. In 1970, Joe and Clara were united in holy matrimony. He joined Allen Chapel A.M.E. Church, Lumpkin, Georgia. In 1984, he began working for Mr. Ray Payne. He was a dedicated farm laborer for thirty plus years. He was a lifelong resident of Webster County, Georgia, where he enjoyed fishing, grilling, and best of all, farming.

His mother and father; three brothers, Mr. Richard Merritt, Jr., Mr. Jim Merritt, and Mr. Green Lee Merritt, preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife, Clara Merritt of Weston, Georgia; three sons, Mr. Robert Merritt of Americus, Georgia, Mr. Billy Merritt of Byron, Georgia, and Mr. Kevin (Shana) Merritt of Americus, Georgia; three grandchildren, Zaisha, Jaiden, and Kailey of Americus, Georgia; four sisters, Mrs. Leona Muff, Mrs. Mary Ann Mays, and Ms. Catherine Merritt of Preston, Georgia, and Mrs. Jennie (Sammy) McCluster of Richland, Georgia; two brothers, Mr. Jack Merritt of Atlanta, Georgia and Mr. Jimmy Merritt of Preston, Georgia; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Hattie Merritt of Preston, Georgia; one aunt, Mrs. Mattie Harris of Americus, Georgia; one uncle, Mr. William Harris of Americus, Georgia; a devoted nephew, Mr. Tommie Merritt of Preston, Georgia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, devoted friends, Mr. & Mrs. Ray Payne of Preston, Georgia, Mr. Andy (Lori) Payne of Weston, Georgia, and Mr. Brian (Jennifer) Payne of Parrott, Georgia; and other friends.Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. at T.V.Williams Funeral Home Chapel, Richland, Georgia. Interment Service will follow in Serenity Rest Cemetery, Richland, Georgia.
