Doris Lee Rembert, a native of Butler, Georgia, was born to the late Mr. Linzzie Hodges and Mrs. Claudia Mae Hodges on October 20, 1928. This loving union produced eight children, of which Doris was the eldest daughter. Doris was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend with a kind and generous spirit, which was overwhelmingly recognized by friends and family, who described her as strong, worthy, fearless, loving, a caring matriarch, and an ageless beautiful Black Queen.
Doris started her life*s journey in Lumpkin, Georgia where at a young age she displayed a keen interest in planting beautiful flowers and caring for her cats.
Having confessed her life to Christ, Doris was a member of St. Phillip Missionary Baptist Church in Lumpkin, Georgia (The Valley) where she served as an usher for over sixty years.
On August 14, 1950, Doris was joined in holy matrimony, which lasted for forty-three years, to the love of her life, Fred Rembert. During this union, they were blessed with eleven children. She was very protective of those she loved. In similar fashion, she played an instrumental role in the life of her children. Her responsibilities challenged and shaped her perspective on life. She possessed a natural gift for working with her hands as it was shown through her ability to not only plant, but also through mending and sewing. Distinct footprints have been left behind with her family and friends.
Friends, community members, and family will find it so hard to think of and visit Mrs. Doris* home without her signature response, *Come in and hurry up and close that door!* She will forever be known as a woman who always kept her hair, nails, and clothes beautiful; loving laughter, music, and dancing. She also had an even greater joy in her heart for cooking, which has been passed down through the generations of her offspring.
She was always a very hardworking, loving, caring and generous woman who was highly respected by those who knew her, especially her thirty-four grandchildren, forty-nine great-grandchildren, and ten great-great grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She always provided wisdom and encouragement to all who crossed her path.
Tuesday, August 15, 2018, Momma peacefully departed this earthly life at her home. Her husband, Fred Rembert; her eldest son, Willie C. Washington (Yolanda); her baby boy, Donald Gary Rembert; one sister, Fannie Nell Smith; and two brothers, Samuel Hodges and Fred Hodges, preceded her in death.
Doris leaves behind a large extended family bonded by love to forever remember her legacy. Included in this long procession of loved ones are her children: Angeline Estes (Willie), Larry Rimbert (Julie), Fred Rembert, Jr. (Catherine), Eddie Earl Rembert (Kim), Van Rimbert (Rosa), Gregory Rembert (Jennifer), Minnie Dean Adams (Clyde), Howard K. Rembert (Sandra), and Pamela Powell (Keith); two sisters: Clifford Hayes and Ada Mae Edwards; five brothers, LZ Hodges (Mary), Jim Hodges, Joe Ford, Alton Ford, and Alvin Ford.
Doris Lee Rembert will be remembered as that kind of woman whose conviction was evident in the way she lived her life and loved her family.
Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 20, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. at Richland H&I Learning Center, Richland, Georgia. Interment Service will follow in St. Phillip Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery, Lumpkin, Georgia.
