Deacon Vernon L. Jones, Sr. of 181 McNaughton Street, Cusseta, Georgia, passed away on August 22, 2010 at Doctors Hospital, Columbus, Georgia.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. at Kingsville Missionary Baptist Church, Cusseta, Georgia. The burial will follow in Zion Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Cusseta, Georgia.
Deacon Vernon L. Jones, Sr. was born February 14, 1946 in Stewart County, Georgia to the late Willie and Fannie B. Jones. Other than his parents, three brothers, Sylvester, Lindbergh, and Eugene Jones, and two sisters, Savannah Jones and Eula Feaster, preceded him in death. Vernon said good-bye to his wife, children, grandchildren, sisters, brothers, nieces, nephews, and friends on Sunday, August 22, 2010. He was tired, and fought a good fight that led him to our Heavenly Father.
In his early years, Vernon attended school in Richland, Georgia. He also attended Cusseta Industrial High School. He retired from Columbus Foundry in Columbus, Georgia. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined St. Phillip C.M.E. Church. Later, he moved his membership to Zion Hill Baptist Church, Cusseta, Georgia, where he served until his death.
He leaves to mourn: his loving and devoted wife, Mildred K. Jones of thirty-seven years, four sons, Keith V. Jones (Valerie), Marcus P. Jones (Alicia), Vernon L. Jones, Jr. (Heather), and Keith V. Jones, Jr.; two daughters, Marlena Wallace and Lois King, both of Hartford, Connecticut; a stepson, Dewayne Meadows of Cusseta, Georgia; seven grandsons, fourteen granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter; five brothers, Sammie Jones (Doris), Larry Jones (Josephine) of Cusseta, Georgia, Willie Jones (Irene) of Columbus, Georgia, James Jones (Mary) of Windsor, Connecticut, and James E. Jones (Betty) of Augusta, Georgia; six sisters, Farie Ray, Essie Jones, and Flossie Alexander (David), all of Columbus, Georgia, Versie Bly (Kenneth) of Chesapeake, Virginia, Annie Ward (Joseph) of Hartford, Connecticut, and Annie L. Radney (Rev. Radney) of Brooklyn, Georgia; two uncles, Rufus Brown (Rose) of Hartford, Connecticut and E.Y. Brown (Queen Easter) of New Jersey; four sisters-in-law, Mattie Sampson, Laverne Golden (Jake) of Columbus, Georgia, Adah Brown (L.B.) of Cusseta, Georgia, and Maranda Meadows of Columbus, Georgia; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends.
